Google Pays Tribute to Mehdi Hassan with Doodle on his 91st Birthday
Google always pays tribute to great personalities and occasions with doodles. Today, a great Pakistani Ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan was honoured on his 91st birthday with Google’s doodle feature.
In the past, Google also paid tribute to other well-known and legendary personalities of Pakistan such as Abdul Sattar Edhi, Nusrat Fateh Ali khan, Noor Jehan, Nazia Hassan and many others.
Google Honors Mehdi Hassan with Doodle on his 91st Birthday
Mehdi Hassan was born on July 18, 1927, in a village called “Luna” in Rajasthan, India. During the Indo-Pak partition of 1947, the family migrated to Pakistan after Partition.
His Father and uncle were dhrupad singers. Mehdi Hassan also sang dhrupad and kheyal in his first concert.
He had sang many ghazals and playback songs for Pakistani movies. His first musical performance was on Radio Pakistan in 1957.
This legendary personality was honoured with numerous awards which include Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Pride of Performance and Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan.
His first song was ‘Jab Koi Pyaar Se Bulaye Ga, Tum Ko Ek Shakhs Yaad Aye Ga’ and popular ghazal ‘Ik Husn Ki Devi Se Mujhe Pyar Hua Tha’ made him a popular among people. He sang for over 300 films during his music career.
Mehdi Hassan died after a protracted illness on June 13, 2012 in a hospital in Karachi.
